Not all households have rooms suited to 4.1, 5.1, 7.1, 9.1 or 22.1 surround set-
So how do you create a sense of presence or inclusion within the sound field?
There have been many attempts at solving this problem.
One method is sound-
Audio virtualizers that use the characteristics of the human ear to trick the ear into thinking the sound is coming from around you have been tried to varying degrees of success. For starters they are only effective in a very narrow sweet spot. Additionally, for the most part they either only work within a limited frequency band, or use artificial echo to simulate a fake environment within the sound field. They also have a tendency to alter the frequency response / timbre of the sound.
TSS is our virtualizer technology. It has been designed to avoid the pitfalls present in current virtual surround technology. To that end, we have created a convincing and immersing sound field from two speakers, without sacrificing frequency range and without resorting to additional echoes for clues
This allows us to present a very broad and surrounding audio image from two front speakers. The technology also works with headphones, but was designed primarily for speakers.
For more information or to inquire about a demonstration, contact our Australian office below, or using the contact page.
TSS not only gives surround sound from two speakers, it also dramatically opens up the sound stage, giving a lighter, airy and dimensional quality to the sound that makes it hard to believe is being produced by the speakers in front of you.
The improvement to the sound makes ordinary average cone speakers, such as desktop computer speakers, sound much more vibrant and alive, far beyond what you’d have thought possible.
The Stereo mix in this clip is actually an Involve encoded stereo mix. Note that there are no colorations or artifacts in the encode.
You may need to view it in a separate window depending on where you are viewing from.
This clip shows a comparison between a straight stereo track, a TSS track using the discrete surround mix, and a TSS track decoded first from stereo using Involve.
